San Telmo & Tango Roots Free Tour
Cobblestones, conventillos and the dance born in the port
Tango wasn’t born in a ballroom — it was born in the immigrant tenements of San Telmo and the port slums beyond, and polite society hated it until Paris fell in love. This walk covers the conventillos, antique markets and milonga culture of the city’s oldest barrio, with a proper tango primer from your guide.
The walk starts at Plaza de Mayo (Plaza de Mayo, Monserrat, Buenos Aires) and runs Tuesday to Sunday at 11:00. It lasts around 2.5 hours, is offered in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and the group is capped at 25 people so the experience stays personal. Look for the guide with the green FreeTour sign.
