Asakusa & Old Tokyo Free Walking Tour

Sensō-ji, incense and the spirit of the low city

4.9 (1,980) · Hosted by Tokyo Native Walks

Tokyo’s oldest temple has welcomed pilgrims for 1,400 years — through fires, earthquakes and war — and the neighborhood around it still moves at Edo-period pace. This tour covers Sensō-ji’s rituals, Nakamise’s craft stalls and the shitamachi backstreets where old Tokyo survives, with Skytree photobombing the skyline.

The walk starts at Kaminarimon Gate, Asakusa (2 Chome-3-1 Asakusa, Taito City, Tokyo) and runs daily at 10:00 and daily at 14:00. It lasts around 2.5 hours, is offered in English, Japanese, and the group is capped at 25 people so the experience stays personal. Look for the guide with the green FreeTour sign.
